Hi all.
I had a trip on Monday the 19Th at New Melones with two great guys.
Now these two guys really wanted to learn and know how to catch kokanee, now they have fished before on there own and were not that lucky, but I tell you what they brought there note pads and took lots of notes and they are now ready to go out on there own and catch lots of fish.
Just by hiring a guide they learned more in one day than spending many countless hours of fishing on there own.
Now this day was a good day of fishing, the weather was just great and the fish were happy to see us as they were willing to bite, the bite was good as soon as we started, then it slowed down, we had sporadic action slowly picking up a fish here and there until about 11:30, when we had our ten fish, now the kokanee action was good for us this day as we boated 8 kokanee and two trout.
The best news is, is this years kokanee are already bigger than they were last year at this time, the biggest kokanee we caught today was fourteen and a half inches, so that is great to see as it is very early in the season.
So if you are thinking about booking a trip, lets make some plans ahead of time.

Wow another post so soon!
I had a trip to Don Pedro on Sunday the 18Th, these two guys wanted to catch King Salmon, and catch kings we did, now they are not big, around one and a half to a little over two pounds, but I tell you what these fish fight like crazy.
My clients boated seven Kings and Three trout, a good days fishing!
Also we lost and missed a few, but as you know that's fishing.

Hi everyone,
All I can say is the fishing is really starting to get way better.
I had a trip Thursday the 15Th with three clients at New Melones, we caught 11 fish, seven nice trout and four kokanee, we lost a few just out of reach of the net and had many bump and runs.
It sure is nice to see the kokanee and they are fat little critters and seem to be growing fast.

Hi everyone,,
Wow another post so soon since the last one.
Okay, I had two trips to Melones this week, Friday and Saturday.
Lets start with Friday first, man what a beautiful day to be out fishing, had four people on board so you now what that means, I put out six rods, two side plainers and the four downriggers with kokanee gear on them, with all that gear in the water we had to catch something or at least snag something.
Well it was not long and we started getting bit, everything was getting bit, we were catching trout on the surface and we even started catching some kokanee.
The kokanee seems to finally have shown there faces, no they are not big yet, they are only about 13 inches, however they are fat and full of plankton also a very welcome site to see, at one point we even had a triple but lost all of them, we did end the day at noon with ten fish, four trout and six kokanee, this was a good day of fishing as we should have gotten more to the boat but that's fishing.
Now for Saturday, I thought I could back to where I left off Friday, now the fish were there but the bite was a tough one as we had a storm front on the approach, and I tell you what this shut the bite down, we lost a couple fish and missed some strikes, we only boated three fish on this day, we fought the wind as it would blow pretty hard and calm down a little and then blow hard again making it tough to control the boat at times, but we managed, when the weather finally decides to stay nice the fishing will break wide open.

Hi all,
April the 2ND I take my two kids fishing to Don Pedro, it was over cast with a slight breeze, we started out trolling our usual fast trolling spoons, that only produced one small trout, so we let it go, Then I switched over to troll for some Kings and i did not even get the third rod out as we have fish on, that was a small king so we let it go and we keep on catching kings, we had a good bite going and we caught alot of kings releasing most of them and only keeping the fatter ones, then we switched back over to troll for some trout and we ended up catching three nice trout, so we kept them , by now it 12:30 and time to go home as I had a trip back to Don Pedro in the morning.
There is alot of kings, but all most all of them are only 12 to 15 inch fish, I know there are some bigger ones out there somewhere.
April the 3rd were back at Don Pedro with three clients and an approaching storm front, I know you are probably already thinking what I am going to say next, and yes you are correct it was an UGLY day of fishing, not just weather wise, but catching as well, I hate to say this but I tell it how it is or was fishing, we only boated one fish, yes just one, and we lost lost two others, had several hits on the kings rods, but it was not even close to comparison as the day before.
Then we had a trip planned for Monday the 5Th, but nobody wanted to get wet as it rained all of Easter night and into the next day, so we will try again soon, and I know the fishing will be better in a few weeks.

Okay, as long as I am in the posting mood, lets keep it going.
March 26Th, we headed to Melones with a returning client, but he was not able to start until about 8:30 and he just needed to get out of the house and to catch fish would be a bonus, it was a nice day, but a cold one at that, as it was 38 degrees still at 8:30.
It was not long and we had fish on and then another, then we had some drive bys, we fished until about 1:00 o'clock for four trout and a bass that went back into the pond.

Hi all,
Okay, I know its been too long since my last post.
Lets see if I can get this straight.
We have been fishing, but have slacked on the photos and some of the fish have not been photo worthy if you know what I mean.
The 24Th of March I had three returning clients at Don Pedro, we started with trolling spoons from the surface to 17 feet and about 45 minutes had passed and finally, we boat a trout, then another and another , and before I knew it we have five fish in the boat, I was thinking wow, this looks like it might be a pretty good day of fishing, then he bite slowed and we made a move to some different water, after a short while we boated a very nice trout a little over two pounds, all this happened by about 10:30.
Then a south wind came up and it was like someone turned the light switch to the off position, because we never had another bite for the rest of the day, and with the south wind we had a storm front coming in , and that's what had to stop the bite.
We covered many miles of water in search for some fish, what a tough on the water.
